The Manic Medic - Our Story
Catherine "CJ" Tomecek

NREMT - Paramedic / Certified Ophthalmic Assistant / AHA Instructor, BLS
Her Medical Field Journey
She began her journey as a Vascular Surgeon's Medical Assistant from 2012 to 2014. When life offered her a new opportunity in late 2014, she switched specialties to Ophthalmology, where she worked as a Medical Billing Specialist, Surgery Counselor, and Scheduler, and eventually became a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant in November 2017. She found her "forever home" in July 2018 at a private practice in Chicago, IL, where she continues to work today.
A Passion Found for EMS
In November 2020, she discovered a passion for prehospital care. She became an NREMT-Basic in April 2021 and earned her NREMT-Paramedic certification in October 2023; she is currently hold state certifications in VA (where she is current working full-time) and IL.
A New Mission for Teaching
The Manic Medic was founded with a deep, personal connection to CPR. The inspiration came from a pivotal moment in CJ's career when she transported a patient whose life had been saved by a bystander’s quick thinking and effective chest compressions. This swift action bought precious time before EMS could arrive, ultimately saving the patient's life, who later recovered and went home. This powerful experience fuels her mission: to teach lifesaving skills to anyone willing to learn.
Support for Our Veterans
As a proud spouse to a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, CJ is committed to honoring and giving back to our military service members.
Through The Manic Medic, she offers flexible and convenient FREE initial training to veterans who present their DD214, along with a discounted recertification course for just $20.
For civilians 13 months and older from separation date, CJ provides discounted rates for initial training for $40 and $20 for recertification.
The Mission: To deliver training that equips veterans with skills that may set them apart from other job candidates.
